The second annual Slow Food Charleston Ark of Taste dinner will take place at The Bower at Edmund’s Oast (1081 Morrison Dr, Charleston, SC 29403) with a preceding Happy Hour at Home Team BBQ (126 Williman St, Charleston, SC 29403) on August 28th, 2016. The dinner will take place from 6:30-10pm and feature one chef from each Southeastern state who will be cooking with an important Ark of Taste ingredient from their respective state. Chefs include:

·      Tyler Brown, Southall Farms, Franklin, Tennessee

·      John Currence, City Grocery, Oxford, Mississippi

·      Reid Henninger, Edmund’s Oast, Charleston, South Carolina

·      Joe Kindred, Kindred, Davidson, North Carolina

·      Matthew Raiford, The Farmer and The Larder, Brunswick, Georgia

·      Nathan Richard, Kingfish, New Orleans, Louisiana

·      Jacques Larson, Wild Olive & The Obstinate Daughter, Charleston South Carolina

 

The dinner will be a celebration of Slow Food Charleston’s nomination of Seashore Rye to the Ark of Taste list. The menu will highlight this ingredient as well as a number of other Ark of Taste ingredients as well as breads from Root Baking Co., grains from Anson Mills and Geechie Boy Mill, fish from Abundant Seafood and produce from Limehouse Produce. Served family style, the meal will feature a Seashore Rye beer from Edmund’s Oast, an Ark of Taste inspired cocktail from Roderick Weaver, various wines and an affogato station from BeardCat’s SweetShop and a variety of digestifs from Counter Culture Coffee, Vicario Spirits, High Wire Distilling, Six and Twenty distillery and the Charleston Brown Water Society. Dr. David Shields, chair of the Southeastern Ark of Taste Nominating for Slow Food will be in attendance as well as Glenn Roberts of Anson Mills and a number of Ark of Taste purveyors.

Preceding the dinner, Slow Food Charleston is hosting an Ark of Taste Happy Hour from 4-6pm at Home Team BBQ in collaboration with the Charleston Brown Water Society. The event is family friendly and will feature an Ark of Taste Snack spread from local Charleston chefs highlighting local Ark of Taste ingredients, a rye whiskey from Charleston Brown Water Society, Ark inspired cocktails from various local bartenders and Tiny Tastemakers activities for children.

Tickets to the Ark of taste dinner are $200 and include dinner, beverages, live music and admission to the preceding Happy Hour at Home Team BBQ. Happy Hour tickets are $25 and include the snack spread and two drink tickets. T
